About

East Bay Campground occupies a prime position on Thompson Reservoir in the Fremont-Winema National Forest, roughly 35-40 minutes south of Silver Lake, Oregon. The 18 spacious sites are set among mature ponderosa pines and aspens, providing welcome shade and scenic views of Hager Mountain rising above the reservoir. The campground accommodates both tents and RVs, though no hookups are available. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Potable water is available from a hand pump, and three vault toilets serve the campground. Thompson Reservoir is stocked annually with rainbow trout and has a boat ramp for launching (10 mph speed limit on the lake). There is no dock at present. Beyond fishing and boating, hikers can access the Fremont National Recreation Trail #160 and the Hager Mountain summit trail, approximately 4 miles one-way. The campground is popular with hunters in fall.

Directions

From Silver Lake, take Oregon Highway 31 west for less than half a mile, then turn left onto County Highway 4-12 (East Bay Road). This becomes Forest Service Road 28.
