About

Eastbay Campground sits at the base of Hager Mountain on the scenic shores of Thompson Reservoir, approximately 40 minutes south of Silver Lake, Oregon. The campground features 18 spacious sites shaded by mature ponderosa pines and aspens, accommodating both tent and RV camping. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Thompson Reservoir is stocked with rainbow trout annually and offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities. A boat launch provides easy access to the water, though there is currently no dock. A 10 mph speed limit applies on the lake. The campground serves as a trailhead for the Hager Mountain Trail, which leads approximately 4 miles to the summit. The area is particularly popular with hunters in the fall. Facilities include three vault toilets throughout the campground. The remote location, roughly 2 hours southeast of Bend, provides a peaceful high desert camping experience. Despite being off the beaten path, the campground can fill during summer weekends due to its limited number of sites and desirable lakefront location.

Directions

From Silver Lake, take Oregon Highway 31 west for less than a half mile and turn left onto County Highway 4-12 (East Bay Road). County Highway 4-12 becomes Forest Service Road 28. Continue on FS Road 28 and take a right on FS Road 2800-014. The campground is at the end of the road beside Thompson Reservoir.
