About
Farm Well Horse Camp is a primitive equestrian campground in the Fremont-Winema National Forest, positioned along the Fremont National Recreation Trail approximately 20 minutes east of Silver Lake, Oregon. The forest-mountain setting offers views of basin and range terrain along with striking vistas of Hager Mountain, whose cone-shaped 7,200-foot peak and lookout tower dominate the landscape. The camp features five campsites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, one vault toilet, horse corrals, and sufficient space to maneuver horse trailers. No potable water is available on site; campers must bring their own drinking water, though two ponds provide water for stock. There are no fees to camp here. From Farm Well, riders can access the Hager Mountain Lookout via a three-mile trail, rewarded with panoramic views of the Cascades and Mount Shasta. Continuing another five miles reaches Thompson Reservoir, a regularly stocked trout fishing destination. Wildlife in the area includes deer, elk, songbirds, hawks, and bald and golden eagles. Motorized vehicles are prohibited on the trails.
