Closed — Closed for the winter season. Typically opens in late May and operates through fall. The access road is subject to flash flooding. When not reserved for groups, individual sites are available first-come, first-served.

About

Blue Meadow Group Campground is located in the Monongahela National Forest along Anthony Creek near Alvon, West Virginia. Situated at an elevation of 1,860 feet in a pleasant wooded valley beneath Round Mountain, the campground serves as a group camping facility with 17 campsites, including 4 walk-to sites. Each site comes equipped with picnic tables, grills, and lantern posts, and the campground provides trash collection services and vault toilets. Drinking water is not available on-site but can be accessed from the nearby Blue Bend Campground. The campground's location along Anthony Creek offers excellent opportunities for trout fishing and swimming at the popular "Blue Hole." Hikers and bird watchers can explore nearby trails including the Anthony Creek Trail, which follows the creek through a narrow valley filled with rhododendron and flowering forest trees, and the Blue Bend Loop Trail, which offers three scenic overlooks. The nearby Big Draft Wilderness provides opportunities for more remote exploration. The surrounding Monongahela National Forest comprises about a million acres and is home to black bear, coyote, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, red and gray fox, bobcat, fisher, otter, and mink. When not reserved as a group campground, individual campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Directions

From White Sulphur Springs, travel 8 miles north on State Route 92. Turn left at Alvon, West Virginia, onto State Route 16. Travel 4 miles to the recreation area.
