About

West Shore Loop Campground is one of four camping loops at Lake Sherwood Recreation Area, positioned along the largest lake in Monongahela National Forest. At an elevation of 2,600 feet, the recreation area spans 156 acres and serves as a complete family destination. The West Shore Loop is the first to open each season, typically in May, and offers both single and double campsites. Each campsite includes a gravel parking spur, tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. The campground provides accessible restrooms with running water, flush toilets, hot showers, and electricity during the summer season. In spring and fall when water systems are shut down, vault toilets and a hand pump well serve campers, and fees are reduced. A dump station is available on-site, though individual sites lack hookups. The recreation area offers extensive amenities including two sand swimming beaches connected by a scenic footbridge, three boat launches for electric motors only, fishing for tiger muskie, bass, bluegill, catfish and bullhead, and multiple hiking trails including the popular 3.5-mile loop around Lake Sherwood. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound with black bear, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, coyote, bobcat, and various other species inhabiting the area.
