Cales Knoll Campground
Cales Knoll Loop opens for the 2026 season on May 18. During summer months, flush toilets, hot showers, and running water are available. In spring and fall, vault toilets and a hand pump well are provided. Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance through Recreation.gov, with availability up to 6 months in advance.

About
Cales Knoll Loop is one of four camping loops at Lake Sherwood Recreation Area, West Virginia's premier family camping destination in the Monongahela National Forest. Perched along the shores of the 156-acre Lake Sherwood at 2,600 feet elevation, the campground offers a complete outdoor experience with swimming beaches, a boat ramp, and multiple hiking trails. Each campsite includes a parking spur, tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. During the summer season, bathhouses provide flush toilets, hot showers, and running water. In spring and fall shoulder seasons, vault toilets and a hand pump well are available. A dump station serves RV campers, though no hookups are available at individual sites. Lake Sherwood offers fishing opportunities for tiger muskie, channel catfish, bullhead, bluegill, and largemouth bass. Hiking trails include the Lake Sherwood Trail, Upper Meadow Trail, Meadow Mountain Trail, and Meadow Creek Trail. The campground is managed by the Marlinton-White Sulphur Ranger District.

From White Sulphur Springs: Head northeast on E Main Street, turn left onto WV-92 N/Pocahontas Trail (15.4 miles), turn right onto Lake Sherwood Road (3.8 miles), continue straight on Lake Sherwood Road (6.4 miles), turn right to reach Lake Sherwood Recreation Area and Cales Knoll Loop.
