Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A slow moving cold front combined with an upper level disturbance will bring widespread heavy rain to the region. Lake Sherwood Recreation Area is a complete family destination at 2,600 feet elevation in the Monongahela National Forest. The campground features 104 individual campsites spread across multiple loops (Whiskey, Pine, Meadow, Knoll, Woodbine, and Lake) plus 10 group sites accommodating up to 50 people each. Every standard site includes a gravel parking spur, tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. One electric site is available. During peak season from Memorial Day through Labor Day, all camping areas have restrooms with running water, flush toilets, hot showers, and electricity. In spring and fall, vault toilets and a hand pump well remain available. A dump station serves RV campers. Additional amenities include a playground, picnic shelters, and volleyball courts. The 156-acre lake offers two swimming beaches and allows boating with electric motors only. Anglers pursue largemouth bass, bluegill, bullhead, channel catfish, and tiger muskie. The Lake Sherwood Area Trail System provides 18 miles of hiking, including the Lake Sherwood Trail, Upper Meadow Trail, Meadow Mountain Trail, and Meadow Creek Trail. The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs is a 15-minute drive away.
Directions
From White Sulphur Springs, head northeast on E Main Street, turn left onto WV-92 N and travel 15.4 miles. Turn right onto Lake Sherwood Road and continue approximately 10 miles to the recreation area.
