About

Lake Sherwood Recreation Area is a complete family destination perched along the 156-acre Lake Sherwood, the largest lake in the Monongahela National Forest. At an elevation of 2,600 feet, the recreation area offers standard camping, tent-only sites, and group camping facilities, all served by restrooms with running water during the main season. The lake is a popular destination for boating and fishing, with anglers seeking tiger muskie, channel catfish, bullhead, bluegill, and largemouth bass. A swimming beach and boat ramp provide water access, while several hiking trails including Lake Sherwood Trail, Upper Meadow Trail, Meadow Mountain Trail, and Meadow Creek offer terrestrial exploration. The area is home to black bear, coyote, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, red and gray fox, bobcat, fisher, otter, and mink. Located 15 miles north of White Sulphur Springs via State Route 92, then 11 miles east on State Route 14, the recreation area provides a scenic mountain escape within the million-acre Monongahela National Forest. The Greenbrier Resort is just 15 minutes away, and Lewisburg, home to the West Virginia State Fair, is 30 minutes from the campground.

Directions

From White Sulphur Springs, travel north on State Route 92 for 15 miles to Neola. Turn east on State Route 14 and travel 11 miles to the lake.
