About

Blue Bend Recreation Area is a rustic wooded campground constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, situated along scenic Anthony Creek in a pleasant valley facing Round Mountain. At an elevation of 1,860 feet within the Monongahela National Forest, the recreation area offers both developed camping and day-use opportunities in a peaceful setting. The campground features two camping loops with 40 total sites. The Blue Bend Loop has 21 campsites, while the Blue Meadow Group Loop offers 19 sites including 4 walk-in sites. Several sites include electric hookups. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring with grate, trash bin, lantern post, and parking spur. Flush toilets and hot showers are available during the summer season, while vault toilets operate during spring and fall. Running water is seasonal, with a hand pump available during shoulder seasons. Anthony Creek provides excellent opportunities for swimming and trout fishing. The recreation area serves as a gateway to the Big Draft Wilderness, with the popular 5-mile Blue Bend Loop Trail offering three scenic overlooks and connecting to the Anthony Creek Trail system. Two picnic shelters are available, including a large group shelter that accommodates 75 people and can be reserved during peak season. Wildlife is abundant, with black bear, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, coyote, red and gray fox, bobcat, fisher, otter, and mink calling the area home.
