Pine Run Loop Campground sits within the Lake Sherwood Recreation Area at 2,600 feet elevation in the Monongahela National Forest. Lake Sherwood, spanning 156 acres, is the largest lake on the forest and serves as the centerpiece for this family-oriented recreation area. The campground offers standard sites equipped with a parking spur, tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. During the summer season, campers benefit from restrooms with running water, flush toilets, hot showers, and electricity for the facilities. In spring and fall shoulder seasons, services are reduced to vault toilets and a hand pump well, with correspondingly lower fees. A dump station is available on-site, though no hookups are provided at individual sites. The recreation area features two sand swimming beaches with a bathhouse, multiple hiking trails including the 3.5-mile Lake Sherwood Trail loop, a boat ramp, and fishing opportunities for tiger muskie, channel catfish, largemouth bass, and bluegill. Bear activity in the area requires proper food storage practices per Forest Service orders.

Directions

From White Sulphur Springs, head northeast on E Main Street. Turn left onto WV-92 N/Pocahontas Trail and continue for 15.4 miles. Turn right onto Lake Sherwood Road and proceed 3.8 miles. Continue straight for 6.4 miles, then turn right to reach Lake Sherwood Recreation Area.
