About

Yukwah Campground is a family-oriented campground tucked in a heavily wooded landscape along the South Santiam River in the Willamette National Forest. Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the campground features 20 campsites with a mix of 18 single sites and 2 double sites that accommodate trailers ranging from 18 to 32 feet depending on the site. Many campsites stretch along the river and offer direct river access, surrounded by moss-draped alder, Douglas fir, and maple trees with lush fern understory. The campground includes both reservable and first-come, first-served sites on paved roads with gravel parking spurs. Amenities include vault toilets, drinking water from hand pump wells, a day-use shelter with fireplace, and a small picnic area with barrier-free tables and fire rings. Four sites feature barrier-free facilities. The wheelchair-accessible Yukwah Nature Trail winds 0.3 miles through the campground along the South Santiam River and accesses an ADA fishing platform. Recreation opportunities abound with fishing and swimming in the South Santiam River, hiking the historic Santiam Wagon Road trail, and exploring nearby Iron Mountain, Gordon Meadows, and Echo Basin for wildflower viewing. The Menagerie Wilderness is accessible via Trout Creek Trail located 1/4 mile from the campground, offering a 5.6-mile round trip hike to Rooster Rock with valley views. The campground is managed by Linn County Parks under special use permit from the USFS.
