About

Longbow Organization Camp is a historic group campground built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, situated on a scenic 10-acre bend of the South Santiam River in Willamette National Forest. The facility features six alpine-style sleeping shelters with fireplaces, all facing the river, with a combined capacity of 50 people. A covered dining hall includes a cooking area, fireplace, and seating for 40, while a nearby amphitheater can accommodate up to 75 for gatherings. The campground is designed exclusively for organized groups and does not permit tents or trailers. Potable water is available from a hand pump, and an accessible double vault toilet serves the facility. A volleyball court and ample gathering spaces make this ideal for reunions, scout troops, and organizational retreats. Fishing and wading in the South Santiam River are popular activities, and hikers can explore the nearby Old Santiam Wagon Road, a historic trail used to transport livestock across the Cascades. The Menagerie Wilderness is also accessible from the area. Elk are sometimes visible in a nearby pasture during early May.
