About

Trout Creek Campground is a historic family campground situated along the South Santiam River in Willamette National Forest, approximately 20 miles east of Sweet Home, Oregon. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the campground features 24 sites on a single loop tucked under Douglas-fir and Hemlock trees, with many sites offering direct river access. The campground includes four pull-through sites ranging from 24 to 40 feet, two tent-only sites, and 20 standard sites with gravel parking spurs and paved roads. Amenities include potable drinking water from a hand pump well, three vault restrooms (two double and one single, all accessible), fire rings, and picnic tables. Firewood is not readily available on-site, so campers should bring their own or purchase locally. Wading and fishing are popular activities in the river. The campground serves as a gateway to excellent hiking opportunities. The 2.8-mile Trout Creek Trail connects to the Menagerie Wilderness trail system, while Rooster Rock Trail across the road offers a 3.3-mile one-way hike to a stone pinnacle popular with rock climbers. The nearby Walton Ranch Interpretive Trail and historic Santiam Wagon Road provide additional exploration options.
