About
Youghiogheny Recreation Area is a day-use facility located on Youghiogheny River Lake in the heart of Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this scenic recreation area spans the lake near the Mason-Dixon Line and offers stunning views of clean waters surrounded by forested mountains and steep-sided valleys. The centerpiece of this facility is the Klondike Pavilion, a group shelter equipped with electricity, grills, tables, and buffet-style countertops. The pavilion is accessible via a handicap-accessible path from the parking lot and features nearby restrooms. From the pavilion, visitors enjoy beautiful lake views and short walking access to the swimming beach and boat launch. The surrounding landscape consists of narrow valleys and high rounded hills covered with northern hardwoods including beech, sugar maple, white ash, yellow poplar, and basswood. The area is home to diverse wildlife including deer, bear, turkey, grouse, rabbit, and squirrel. Boaters consider the 16-mile long Youghiogheny River Lake one of the best powerboating and water-skiing destinations in southwestern Pennsylvania. The lake is also renowned for its excellent trout fishing, with regular stocking from April through September. Nearby attractions include Ohiopyle State Park, known for world-class whitewater kayaking, and numerous cycling trails throughout the Laurel Highlands.
Directions
From Confluence, PA, take PA Route 281. The facility is located at 497 Flanigan Road. Upon arrival, turn left to cross the dam with full lake views. Continue straight into the boaters parking lot, take the third right, and the pavilion is visible from the lot.
