Yough Dam

Youghiogheny Recreation Area

Open

This is a day-use recreation area with the Klondike Pavilion group shelter available for reservation. The facility offers picnicking, beach access, boat launch, and fishing but does not appear to provide individual overnight campsites.

About

Youghiogheny Recreation Area sits on Youghiogheny River Lake, a 16-mile reservoir managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in southwestern Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands. The facility centers on the Klondike Pavilion, a group shelter available for reservation that features a buffet-style countertop, tables, grills, and parking with a handicap-accessible path. Beach access and a boat launch are nearby. The lake straddles the Mason-Dixon Line between Pennsylvania and Maryland, surrounded by northern hardwoods including beech, sugar maple, and yellow poplar. Youghiogheny Lake's outflow area is renowned for trout fishing, with stocking from April through September. Boaters consider the lake one of the best powerboating and water-skiing destinations in southwestern Pennsylvania. Note: This facility is primarily a day-use area with group shelter rental rather than a traditional campground with individual overnight campsites. For overnight camping at Youghiogheny River Lake, consider nearby Outflow Camping or Mill Run Recreation Area.

Directions

From 497 Flanigan Rd in Confluence, PA, turn left across the dam for a full view of the lake. Continue straight into the boaters parking lot, then take the third right to reach the Klondike Pavilion.
