About

Spanning 13,625 acres along Laurel Mountain in southwestern Pennsylvania, Laurel Ridge State Park centers on the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. This linear park stretches from the Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle to the Conemaugh Gorge near Johnstown, crossing Cambria, Fayette, Somerset, and Westmoreland counties. Eight designated shelter areas are positioned approximately every 6-10 miles along the trail. Each area features five Adirondack-type shelters with fireplaces, two vault toilets, and space for 25 tents. Shelters accommodate up to five campers each, with backpacking groups limited to three shelters per overnight stop. Overnight stays are restricted to one night at each shelter area. This is a backcountry experience with no potable water, showers, or hookups at the shelter areas. Hikers must carry all gear and supplies. Fires are permitted only in shelter fireplaces, camp stoves, or designated locations. Cell service is unreliable throughout the park.
