About
Mill Run Recreation Area sits on the scenic Youghiogheny River Lake in the heart of the Laurel Highlands, where the Mason-Dixon Line divides Pennsylvania and Maryland. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this 30-site campground provides a peaceful setting surrounded by narrow valleys and high rounded hills covered in northern hardwoods including beech, sugar maple, white ash, yellow poplar, and basswood. The campground features flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station, along with a swimming beach, boat launch, and children's playground. Boaters consider the 16-mile-long Youghiogheny River Lake, with channels up to one-half mile wide, the best powerboating and water skiing lake in southwestern Pennsylvania. The clean waters and steep-sided valleys create excellent conditions for fishing, boating, water skiing, swimming, hiking, and biking. Wildlife including deer, turkey, grouse, rabbit, and squirrel inhabit the surrounding forests. The lake is close to some of Pennsylvania and Maryland's finest state parks, including Ohiopyle State Park, known for world-class whitewater kayaking competitions.
