About
Mill Run Recreation Area sits on the western shore of Youghiogheny River Lake in the heart of the Laurel Highlands, where the Mason-Dixon Line divides Pennsylvania from Maryland. The 16-mile reservoir with channels up to half a mile wide is considered the best powerboating and waterskiing lake in southwestern Pennsylvania. The campground offers 30 self-contained, standard nonelectric sites amid northern hardwood forest of beech, sugar maple, white ash, yellow poplar, and basswood. Camping, fishing, boating, hiking, and picnicking are the primary draws. The campground includes flush toilets, potable drinking water, and a dump station. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. A designated swim beach, boat launch, and children's playground round out the amenities. Maximum stay is 14 days within any 30-day period, and no more than two tents or one tent and one trailer are permitted per site. Alcohol is prohibited. Nearby attractions include Ohiopyle State Park, known for premier whitewater kayaking, and multiple Pennsylvania and Maryland state parks surrounding the lake. The tailwaters below the dam provide year-round trout fishing stocked by the Fish and Boat Commission.
