Kooser State Park
Open — Open through mid-December. The campground operates from mid-April through mid-December annually. Reservations available through the Pennsylvania State Parks system.
Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 4:55AM EDT by NWS State College PA
The combination of drying fine fuels and leaf litter, low relative humidity of around 35 percent and a southerly wind gusting between 20 and 25 mph during the late morning and afternoon hours, will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across the southern half of Pennsylvania today. Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website at http://dcnr.pa.gov/Communities/Wildfire.
About
Kooser State Park campground sits at an altitude of 2,600 feet in southwestern Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands, approximately one hour from Pittsburgh or Johnstown. The park's 250 acres of forest and pristine trout stream attract visitors year-round to this intimate setting best suited for family outings and small groups. The campground offers 35 sites open from mid-April through mid-December, with most sites offering pull-through capability. Twenty-eight sites include electric hookups, while five sites provide full service with sewer, water, and electricity. Seven non-electric sites are also available. The park's character reflects the craftsmanship of the Civilian Conservation Corps projects from the 1930s, which established the lake, use areas, and distinctive architecture. The entire campground welcomes pets, and ADA-accessible sites are available along with a sanitary dump station. A modern shower facility serves campers, and the park also offers nine rustic cabins available for year-round rental. The trout stream flows the full length of the park, and visitors enjoy fishing, hiking, picnicking, and cross-country skiing in winter months.
