About

Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area is nestled in oak woods flanking both sides of the Sacramento River between Chico and Red Bluff, just 6 miles east of Corning. The park's main visitor area features a well-maintained campground with 37 family campsites, one group campsite accommodating up to 40 people, and more than a mile of hiking trails through oak woodlands. Fishing enthusiasts travel from across the region for exceptional runs of king salmon, steelhead, striped bass, catfish, and bluegill in the Sacramento River. The park sits on a major flyway between Mexico and Canada, making it a premier birding destination where visitors can observe geese, ducks, herons, jays, quail, owls, hawks, falcons, pheasants, and numerous other species throughout the seasons. Across the river lies the 260-acre Woodson Bridge Natural Preserve and Kopta Canoe Camp, accessible primarily by boat. The preserve offers a representative glimpse of native riparian river ecosystems, providing critical habitat for bald eagles, yellow-billed cuckoos, and many other species living among the oaks, cottonwoods, and sycamores. Adjacent Tehama County River Park offers day-use facilities and a boat launch, while the 1,100-acre Rio Vista Unit of the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge lies immediately south, offering additional opportunities for hunting, fishing, hiking, and cycling.

Directions

The park is on South Avenue, three miles west of Highway 99 at Vina, or six miles east of Interstate 5 at Corning.
