About
Wildcat Campground #1 Lower is a primitive tent camping destination buried deep in the North Georgia Mountains west of Lake Burton. The campground sits along the headwaters of Wildcat Creek at 2,420 feet elevation, offering a secluded mountain experience with the creek running directly adjacent to campsites. The creek is seasonally stocked with rainbow trout, providing excellent fishing opportunities for anglers with a valid Georgia fishing license and trout stamp.
This developed campground is designed exclusively for tent camping and provides a remote mountain setting perfect for nature photography and stargazing. Access is via Wildcat Road (Forest Road 26), a steep, winding, single-lane gravel road with turnouts that is not suitable for trailers or RVs. The road has experienced multiple landslides in recent years, with repairs ongoing.
Campsites cost $10 per night, or $5 per night with an Interagency Senior or Access Pass. The campground offers a primitive experience with fire pits and picnic tables at sites, but no potable water or restroom facilities. Campers must bring their own water and be prepared for a true backcountry experience in one of Georgia's most scenic mountain settings.
