NW at 10-15 mph; with gusts as high as 25 mph. * Relative Humidity... Falling below 25% by early afternoon. * Temperatures... 30s to 40s. * Impacts... With elevated winds and low relative humidities, extremely dangerous fire weather conditions are possible.

Sandy Bottoms Recreation Area Campground offers a rustic camping experience along the shores of the Tallulah River in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The campground features 13 developed campsites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Graced with various hardwood species, the campground provides a peaceful setting for outdoor enthusiasts to camp, swim, fish, or simply enjoy the scenic beauty. The Tallulah River provides excellent fishing opportunities and a scenic backdrop for the campground. Hikers can access nearby trails including Beech Creek Trail and Buck Creek Trail in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness Area, or explore the Coleman River Trail. The campground serves as a convenient base for exploring the region's attractions, including Rabun Bald (Georgia's second-highest peak), Tallulah Gorge State Park, and numerous waterfalls throughout the area. With hand-pumped drinking water, vault toilets, and a central trash collection area, Sandy Bottoms provides basic amenities while maintaining a rustic atmosphere. The campground is accessible via Tallulah River Road and requires reservations through Recreation.gov starting May 1, 2025.
Directions
Take U.S. 76 west from Clayton, Georgia for 8 miles; turn right (north) on Persimmon Road for 4.2 miles; turn left (northwest) on Tallulah River Road (Forest Service Road 70) for 4.6 miles to arrive at Sandy Bottoms Campground.
