Fire Weather Watch issued December 29 at 10:46PM EST until December 30 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM EST TUESDAY UNTIL 7 PM EST TUESDAY FOR LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY ACROSS NORTHEAST GEORGIA... .Very dry conditions are expected to develop across northeast Georgia on Tuesday afternoon, with relative humidity dropping as low as 20% (and isolated locations potentially dropping below 20%). Winds will remain breezy on Tuesday, though not as breezy as today, with gusts of 20-25mph possible throughout most of the day. Fine dead fuel moisture is expected to to fall below 10%, and land managers have expressed concern about these coinciding conditions. Although winds do not technically meet strict RFW criteria, the combination of dry fuels, low relative humidity, and breezy winds will nonetheless be favorable for rapid spread of wildfires across the warned area. * AFFECTED AREA...Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart and Elbert. * TIMING...From Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. * WINDS...Northwest 5 to 10 mph. * HUMIDITY...Values as low as 20% are expected. * FUEL MOISTURE...10-hour fuel moisture expected to fall below 10% Tuesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
About
Wildcat Campground #2 is a developed tent-only campground located deep in the North Georgia Mountains west of Lake Burton along the headwaters of Wildcat Creek. The campground offers a pristine mountain setting where the seasonally stocked rainbow trout creek flows directly adjacent to campsites, creating an astounding natural environment. On clear nights, the stars appear exceptionally vivid due to the remote location. The campground is accessed via a winding mountain road that is not suitable for trailers or RVs, ensuring a secluded experience for tent campers seeking solitude in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. The remote location requires self-sufficiency as there are no restrooms or potable water available on-site. Campers must bring all necessary supplies including water. The campground operates on a self-service fee system with a maximum 14-day stay limit within any 30-day period. When open, the nightly fee is $10 per site, with a 50% discount available to holders of Interagency Senior and Access Passes. A Georgia fishing license and trout stamp are required for fishing in Wildcat Creek.
