Wildcat Campground #2
The campground is closed indefinitely due to road damage. West Wildcat Road has sustained four landslides since 2019, with only the first slide repaired. Slides 2-4 remain unrepaired, and the road is closed for public safety. The Forest Service has submitted funding requests through the USDOT Emergency Relief program but no reopening date has been announced.
About
Wildcat Creek Campground #2 Upper sits at the headwaters of Wildcat Creek in the rugged North Georgia Mountains, west of Lake Burton in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. This developed tent camping area offers a secluded mountain experience with campsites positioned directly along the creek, which is seasonally stocked with rainbow trout by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The campground is accessible via West Wildcat Road, a winding mountain route that is not suitable for trailers or RVs. The remote location delivers exceptional stargazing opportunities on clear nights and immersive access to the surrounding forest. A valid Georgia fishing license and trout stamp are required for anglers. Camping fees are $10 per night, with a 50% discount available for holders of Interagency Senior or Access Passes. Maximum stay is limited to 14 days within any 30-day period, and quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 6 AM.
