About
Nestled on the shores of Lake Burton within the Chattahoochee National Forest, Moccasin Creek State Park offers a peaceful mountain camping experience with excellent accessibility. The park's 53 campsites accommodate both tents and RVs, with electric hookups available at each site. Despite being located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the park terrain is relatively flat, making it easy to navigate for large RVs, bicycles, and wheelchairs. The park features a fully accessible fishing pier above a trout-filled creek restricted to seniors 65 and older, children 11 and younger, and anglers with a Georgia disability fishing license. Lake Burton provides 2,800 acres for boating, skiing, and fishing, with kayak, stand-up paddleboard, and canoe rentals available during warmer months. An adjacent trout rearing station is open for tours Monday through Friday. Moccasin Creek's central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the region's waterfalls, mountain bike trails, and the nearby Appalachian Trail. The park offers a wildlife observation tower, playground, boat dock and ramp, and a picnic shelter. Wifi is available in the park office and throughout the campground area.
Directions
From Clarkesville, head north on GA-197 for approximately 20 miles. The park entrance is on the right, just past the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery.
