The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels, which is in effect from noon today to 7 PM EST this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AFFECTED AREA...Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart and Elbert. * TIMING...This afternoon into early evening. * WINDS...Northwest 10 to 15 mph; with gusts as high as 20 to 25 mph. * HUMIDITY...Values as low as 20% are expected during the afternoon. * FUEL MOISTURE...10-hour fuel moisture expected to fall below 10% this afternoon. * IMPACTS...With elevated winds and low relative humidities, extremely dangerous fire weather conditions are possible. Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Cradled in the hills of the North Georgia Mountains, Rabun Beach Recreation Area offers a well-developed camping experience overlooking the scenic waters of Lake Rabun. The campground features 80 sites spread across two loops, with 21 sites offering electric hookups and a majority providing water access. Modern amenities include restroom facilities with hot showers, a dump station, and on-site camp hosts to assist visitors. Each campsite is equipped with a grill, picnic table, and lantern post. Firewood is available for purchase on-site. The recreation area provides exceptional access to both land and water activities. Across the highway, Lake Rabun offers a roped-off swimming area with picnic facilities, a boat launch, and a fishing pier. The lake is home to bass, bream, perch, trout, and catfish. From the rear of the campground, visitors can access the popular 1.7-mile Angel Falls/Panther Falls hiking trail. The location serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby attractions including Anna Ruby Falls, Brasstown Bald, Tallulah Gorge State Park, and whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River. This area is part of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, known for its winding trails, scenic mountains, and rolling hills that make it a hiker's paradise and a place of exploration throughout Georgia's southern Appalachian region.
Directions
From Clayton, take U.S. 441/23 south for 5.4 miles; turn right on Wiley Connector for 0.1 mile; turn left south on Georgia 15 for 1.4 miles; turn right on Lake Rabun Road for 5 miles. If pulling a trailer, take Hwy 76 west for 7 miles; turn left on Charlie Mtn. Road for 3.5 miles; turn right on Bridge Creek Road for 2 miles; turn left on Burton Dam Road for 5.4 miles. The campground will be on your left.
