About

Whoop-Um-Up Equestrian Camp is one of four horse-friendly campgrounds in the Boise National Forest, designed specifically for riders and their stock. The campground sits 56 miles northeast of Boise and 17 miles north of Idaho City along State Highway 21, past Mores Creek Summit. Named for adjacent Whoop-em-up Creek, the camp occupies a forested setting beneath tall pines. Six campsites offer equestrian-specific amenities including feed boxes, hitching posts, and stock water, alongside standard camping facilities like picnic tables, grills, and fire rings. A vault toilet serves the area. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required. The Forest Service provides free access during the summer season, though Idaho Parks charges fees during winter months when the area transitions to backcountry skiing and snowmobiling. The surrounding area features multiple trail systems accessible for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. The Crooked River nearby supports rainbow trout fishing. Historic Idaho City, with its gold rush heritage, lies just 11 miles south.

Directions

From Idaho City, travel north on State Highway 21 approximately 17 miles, passing Mores Creek Summit. The campground entrance is on the east side of the highway.
