About

Hayfork Group Campground sits at 5,100 feet elevation along the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway (Highway 21), about 11 miles north of historic Idaho City. The campground reserves as a single group site for up to 50 people, making it suitable for family reunions, scout groups, or small gatherings. The open site has limited shade despite the surrounding ponderosa pine forest. Facilities include vault toilets, drinking water from a hand pump (tested monthly but may shut off without notice), multiple picnic tables, a grill, and a campfire circle with benches. A dumpster is provided for trash. Mores Creek flows between the highway and campground, offering whitefish and rainbow trout fishing. The area has numerous trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and OHV use. Bear activity occurs in the area; food must be stored in approved containers. Cell service is limited, with the nearest coverage in Idaho City (10 miles) or Mores Creek Summit (4 miles). Horse and pack animals are not permitted at this site.

Directions

From Idaho City, take Highway 21 north for about 11 miles to the campground. The entrance is on the east side of the road.
