About

Hayfork Group Campground is a single large-group site located 49 miles northeast of Boise along the scenic Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway (Highway 21) in Boise National Forest. Historic Idaho City is just 12 miles south of the campground. The facility accommodates up to 50 people, making it ideal for family reunions or small weddings. The campground is situated at the foot of a ponderosa pine-forested hillside at an elevation of 5,100 feet. While the surrounding area features dense forest, the campsite itself is in an open area with limited shade. The site is equipped with multiple tables, a grill, and a campfire circle with benches. Vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump are provided. Gravel parking spurs accommodate vehicles, though due to proximity to Highway 21, some road noise is expected. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant in the surrounding area. Mores Creek runs between the highway and the campground, offering cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing. Numerous trails in the area provide opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicle riding. In winter, the area becomes a playground for backcountry skiers and snowmobiles. Highway 21 offers scenic access to hot springs pools, historic sites, and breathtaking mountain views.

Directions

From Idaho City, travel State Highway 21 north for about 11 miles to the campground. The entrance is on the east side of the road.
