About
Originally established as an administrative site in 1912, Beaver Creek Cabin was rebuilt by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s using standard blueprints of the era. The cabin sits at 5,100 feet elevation within the Boise Mountain Range, surrounded by mixed-growth pine forest with Beaver Creek flowing nearby. Beavers are common in the area, along with mule deer, elk, wild turkeys, eagles, and occasional black bears or wolves. The cabin accommodates up to 4 guests with twin beds, bunk beds, and a futon. A wood stove provides heat, and a propane stove, oven, and refrigerator are available during summer months. The indoor bathroom with flush toilet and shower operates from approximately May 20 through early October; in winter, an outhouse with vault toilet is available. There is no electricity, so guests must bring their own lighting. Potable water is only available May 20 through October 1. Recreation opportunities abound, including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV trails in summer, plus cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. The Crooked River, Beaver Creek, and nearby beaver ponds offer fishing for rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout. The 1-mile Beaver Creek Trail leads to swimming holes along the Crooked River.
Directions
Summer: From Idaho City, travel 20 miles northeast on State Highway 21. Turn right on Forest Road 362 and travel 0.5 miles to the cabin. In autumn, use the southern entrance to FR 362, about a mile past Edna Creek Campground. Winter: From Idaho City, travel approximately 18 miles northeast on State Highway 21 to the Whoop-Um-Up parking area. Ski or snowshoe 1.5 miles on the Pilgrim Trail to reach the cabin.
