Whitefish Horse Camp
The campground is currently closed for the winter season. Based on typical operations, opening is expected around late May 2026 when snow recedes. Water systems are typically activated in May depending on weather conditions and shut off by September 30. A bridge on Whitefish Trail #3842 at mile 5 near Diamond View Lake is closed and impassable.
Alcohol Prohibitions
This Order describes acts that are prohibited upon lands, roads and trails within the National Forest System administered by the Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region in regards to alcoholic beverages.
Aquatic Invasive Species
This Order prohibits 1) possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic invasive animal species AND 2) prohibits possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic or riparian invasive plant species - on National Forest System lands in the Pacific Northwest Region as specified in the Order.

About
Whitefish Horse Camp sits beside Whitefish Creek at the west end of Crescent Lake, offering equestrians direct access to some of central Oregon's most scenic backcountry. The campground is adjacent to both Diamond Peak Wilderness and Oregon Cascades Recreation Area, with a trailhead inside the campground connecting to Diamond Peak Wilderness and Diamond Lake Trail. The 17 equestrian sites feature either double or quadruple metal corrals depending on the site. Sites 008, 013, and 018 accommodate up to 4 horses, while the remaining 14 sites handle up to 2 horses each. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and vehicle/trailer parking. Vault toilets and potable water from a hand pump are available. Maximum site spur length is 50 feet. Popular riding destinations include the Whitefish Creek Trail, which follows the creek through lodgepole pines to Diamond View Lake with views of Diamond Peak, then descends to Odell Lake. Portions of the Pacific Crest Trail are also accessible, traversing Diamond Peak at timberline. Wilderness permits are required for PCT access.
Directions
From Crescent, OR: Travel 12.2 miles west on County Road 61/Crescent Cut-off Road, then 3.5 miles north on Highway 58, then 6.7 miles west on Forest Road 60. From Highway 58: Turn right at NF Road 60 and continue 2.2 miles, turn right at Crescent Lake Road for 1.2 miles, make a slight right at NF Road 60 and travel 3.5 miles to the campground on the left.
