About

Whetstone Gulf State Park is built around a stunning three-mile-long gorge carved into the eastern edge of the Tug Hill Plateau in Lewis County, New York. The campground features 56 wooded sites spread through the forest, with select sites offering electric hookups at 15, 30, or 50 amp service. Both back-in and pull-through site configurations are available, though the maximum vehicle length is 30 feet. Facilities include hot showers, flush restrooms, and a dump station. The park offers a man-made swimming beach open from late June through Labor Day, along with excellent fishing opportunities at Whetstone Reservoir for tiger muskie and largemouth bass. A network of hiking trails includes a route that circles the rim of the gorge, offering dramatic views of the canyon walls and Whetstone Creek below. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through mid-October. Winter visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing from December through March. Two pets per site are permitted with proof of current rabies vaccination. Quiet hours run from 10 PM to 7 AM, with generator use restricted to 9-11 AM and 5-9 PM.
