About
Whetstone Gulf State Park is built in and around one of the most spectacular scenic features east of the Rocky Mountains: a three-mile-long gorge cut into the eastern edge of the Tug Hill Plateau. The campground offers 61 wooded campsites accommodating up to 6 people each, with some sites equipped with electric hookups and at least one pull-through site available. All sites feature 30-foot back-in or pull-through driveways suitable for RVs and trailers. The park provides modern camping amenities including hot showers, flush restrooms, and a dump station. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire pit. The campground operates on a reservation system through ReserveAmerica, with same-day reservations accepted until 3 p.m. and walk-ins permitted. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., with generator use restricted to 9-11 a.m. and 5-9 p.m. Campers may stay a maximum of 14 consecutive nights. Recreational opportunities abound with a man-made swimming beach staffed by lifeguards during the season, a scenic picnic area along Whetstone Creek, and trails for hiking that include a route circling the gorge. Above the gorge, Whetstone Reservoir offers canoeing and fishing for tiger muskie and largemouth bass. Winter activities include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on designated trails, with nearby snowmobile trail access available. Pets are welcome with proof of rabies vaccination, limited to two per site on leashes no longer than 6 feet.
