About
Limekiln Lake Campground is one of the larger public campgrounds in the Adirondack Park, featuring 271 tent and trailer sites spread along the shores of Limekiln Lake. Originally developed between 1960 and 1964 on land purchased from the Gould Paper Company, this established campground has been a popular family destination for over 60 years. The facility includes modern amenities such as hot showers, flush toilets, and a trailer dump station. The lake itself is a major draw, allowing canoes, rowboats, and motorboats. Anglers can fish for yellow perch, bullhead, bluegill, and splake. The campground operates a guarded swimming beach with a bathhouse, and canoe and kayak rentals are available on-site. A small boat launch provides access to the water. The Old Dam Nature Trail, a 1.6-mile loop, begins behind campsite 87 and crosses Limekiln Creek on bridges, connecting to longer trails into the backcountry. The campground's location near Inlet and Old Forge provides easy access to Adirondack attractions including the Adirondack Experience museum at Blue Mountain Lake, water parks, golf courses, shops, and restaurants. Nearby hiking opportunities include Rocky Mountain, Blackbear Mountain, and Bald Mountain. The adjacent Moose River Plains Wild Forest offers extensive backcountry recreation opportunities. The campground sells firewood and ice, has a pavilion available for rental, and runs a Junior Naturalist Program for children ages 5-13.
