About

Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site commemorates two important battles fought during the War of 1812 when British forces attempted to capture the strategic American naval base at Sackets Harbor. The site preserves the historic landscape where American regulars, militia, and sailors defended against British attacks in 1812 and 1813. The grounds are open year-round until dark, while the visitor center and museum exhibits operate seasonally beginning in mid-May. Visitors can explore historic buildings, view exhibits about the War of 1812, and walk interpretive trails. Costumed interpreters provide demonstrations during the season. A picnic area is available at no charge, and one pavilion accommodating up to 60 people can be rented for $60. This is a day-use historic site only. There is no overnight camping available at this location. Visitors seeking camping accommodations should look for nearby state parks or private campgrounds in the region.
