About
Rabbit Valley in the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area consists of five distinct campgrounds designed for different camping styles. Fluffle Campground offers large group sites for up to five vehicles with a 4-pen corral. High North Campground includes both group and individual sites accommodating vehicles up to 60 feet, though access from I-70 requires navigating a tight switchback. Koniklos Equestrian Campground features individual corrals at each site and is accessible through a rocky wash requiring high clearance. Jouflas Campground caters to tent campers with a 25-foot vehicle length limit. Knowles Overlook Campground is designed for tent and overland-style camping with 4x4 and high clearance strongly recommended due to wash access. Nestled among scattered juniper at 4,500 feet elevation, Rabbit Valley provides stunning views of the Colorado River, San Juan and La Sal Mountains, Colorado National Monument, and Grand Mesa. The area is known for paleontological resources including the family-friendly Trail Through Time interpretive hike. Recreation opportunities include OHV riding, mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking. The campground is minutes from Fruita and Grand Junction for resupply. Average annual precipitation is less than 10 inches, with sparse vegetation and temperature extremes from below zero to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
