About

Knowles Overlook Campground occupies a remote section of McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area in western Colorado's high desert canyon country. The campground provides 20 individual campsites designed specifically for tent and overland-style camping, with dramatic overlook views of the surrounding red rock landscape. This is one of five campgrounds within the larger Rabbit Valley camping complex managed by the BLM Grand Junction Field Office. Access to Knowles Overlook involves driving through a dry wash that can change rapidly with passing storms, making high-clearance 4WD vehicles strongly recommended. Maximum vehicle length is 30 feet, and the campground does not accommodate group camping. The area experiences extreme temperature swings from below zero to 105°F and receives less than 10 inches of precipitation annually. All sites require advance reservations through Recreation.gov. The campground offers vault toilet facilities but no potable water or electricity. Firewood gathering is prohibited, and campers must pack out all garbage. Stay limits are 7 days per month.
