ESFGJT A strong low pressure system off the Pacific Coast will begin to draw in tropical moisture associated with Topical Storm Rachel this weekend. This strong southerly fetch will draw anomalously high moisture content across the Desert Southwest and into eastern Utah and western Colorado. The chance for widespread precipitation increases Saturday evening into Sunday. Total precipitation forecasts range from 1 to 3 inches across high terrain, with highest amounts favoring the Uintas, Tavaputs and the Southwest San Juan mountains. Embedded thunderstorms are also possible Sunday afternoon, increasing the threat for flash flooding across vulnerable terrain. While confidence in location and rainfall rates remain low at this time, the potential for rapidly rising rivers, streams, normally dry arroyos and slot canyons are possible Sunday through Monday. Please follow the evolving forecast, especially if your plans including recreating or commuting across eastern Utah and western Colorado Sunday onward. Also, keep in mind weather potential above your location and upstream, particularly for those who reside below sensitive terrain like recent burn scars.

Jouflas Campground sits in the Rabbit Valley Motorized Area, part of the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area managed by the BLM Grand Junction Field Office. The campground serves as a base camp for exploring the surrounding desert terrain, which draws OHV enthusiasts, mountain bikers, and those seeking solitude in the high desert. The campground features 8 designated sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire grate. A vault toilet is available on-site. As a primitive facility, there is no potable water, trash service, or hookups. Campers must bring all water and pack out their garbage. Camping is free with a 7-day stay limit. Rabbit Valley hosts three campgrounds total: Jouflas, Castle Rocks, and Knowles Overlook. The broader McInnis Canyons NCA encompasses roughly 123,739 acres including portions of the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, home to the second-largest concentration of natural arches in North America.
Directions
From Grand Junction take I-70 west to exit #2. Go left at the stop sign and over the interstate to the entrance to the National Conservation Area. Stay right at the first two intersections.
