About

Saddlehorn Campground is the only established campground within Colorado National Monument, located near the Saddlehorn Visitor Center, four miles from the west entrance near Fruita. The campground features 79 sites distributed across three loops nestled among large red rock formations with pinyon and juniper trees providing shade. Sites offer views of the Grand Valley to the northwest and the park's most scenic monoliths and canyons to the southeast. Loop B operates year-round with reservable sites, while Loops A and C are seasonal, typically closing from late October through late March. The campground provides flush toilets and potable water during operating season. Each site includes a picnic table and charcoal-only grill. No electric hookups, dump station, or showers are available. The campground enforces a maximum vehicle length of 40 feet including tow vehicle and trailer for Loops A and B, while Loop C has a 19-foot limit and prohibits trailers. The monument is renowned for challenging cycling climbs on Historic Rim Rock Drive, extensive hiking trails, rock climbing on towering sandstone walls, and wildlife viewing opportunities including desert bighorn sheep, golden eagles, and collared lizards. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring this dramatic landscape of the American West.
