James M. Robb Colorado River State Park - Fruita Section is a year-round camping destination situated along the Colorado River in western Colorado. The campground features 57 campsites ranging from tent sites to full-hookup RV sites, though full-hookup sites are only available from April through October. During winter months (November through March), only electric and tent sites remain open, with limited water availability and vault toilets replacing flush restrooms. The Fruita section offers excellent outdoor recreation opportunities including direct access to the Colorado River via a boat ramp, fishing in the stocked Red Rocks Lake (over 5,000 rainbow trout annually), and connection to the extensive regional trail system. A concrete trail links the park to the Riverfront Trail system extending toward Fruita and Loma, while a one-mile gravel trail circles Red Rocks Lake. The park is a popular launching point for whitewater rafting trips through Ruby Horsethief Canyon. With spectacular views of Colorado National Monument and the Book Cliffs, the park provides convenient access to world-class mountain biking trails, dinosaur sites, and red rock hiking areas. Amenities during peak season include flush restrooms, showers, coin-operated laundry, a visitor center, playground, dump station, and a group picnic area available for rental.

Directions

Take I-70 to Exit 19 at Fruita. Go south on Highway 340 for half a mile. The park entrance is on the west side of the highway.
