About

West Star Lake Campground (sites 1701-1718) is located in the central portion of Northern Highland American Legion State Forest on the northeast corner of Star Lake, a 1,206-acre lake known for quality fishing, excellent swimming, and boating. This rustic-style campground features 18 campsites with wider spacing typical of traditional forest campgrounds, offering a quieter camping experience. The campground provides basic amenities including two ADA-accessible vault toilet buildings, two hand pumps for drinking water, and separate trash and recycling dumpsters. A boat launch is located within the campground, and a nearby hiking trail offers additional recreation opportunities. One double campsite (1708-1709) can accommodate up to 12 people and two camping units. Firewood is available for purchase on-site. All campsites require advance reservations and can be booked same-day or up to 11 months in advance. A Wisconsin State Park System vehicle admission sticker is required for entry. The campground operates as part of Wisconsin's largest state forest, which encompasses over 236,000 acres and 900 lakes in the scenic Northwoods region of Vilas County.
