About

Starrett Lake Campground sits on the southern end of Starrett Lake in the central portion of the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. The 66-acre lake permits electric motors only at slow-no-wake speeds, making it ideal for peaceful paddling and fishing. The lake offers good swimming and fair fishing for bass, panfish, northern pike, and occasional walleye. The campground features 44 rustic sites numbered 1301-1344, including walk-to tent-only sites (1309-1311 and 1326-1328) that require a short hike from vehicles. Facilities include four vault toilet buildings, three hand pumps for drinking water, and separate trash and recycling dumpsters. A boat launch provides lake access, and firewood is sold on-site. Starrett Lake is designated as a quiet zone where generators and noise-producing devices are prohibited, creating a more serene camping atmosphere. The campground connects to the paved Heart of Vilas County bike trail, offering routes to Crystal Lake and St. Germain in one direction and Boulder Junction in the other.
