Starrett Lake Campground is a rustic, designated quiet-zone campground located in the central portion of Northern Highland American Legion State Forest on the southern end of Starrett Lake. This 66-acre lake allows electric motors only with slow-no-wake speed restrictions, creating a peaceful atmosphere for campers seeking tranquility. The lake provides good swimming opportunities and fair fishing for bass, panfish, northern pike, and occasionally walleye. The campground features 44 campsites numbered 1301-1344, following the traditional rustic style typical of NHAL campgrounds with wider spacing between sites. Facilities include four vault toilet buildings, three hand pumps for drinking water, and separate trash and recycling dumpsters. A boat launch is located within the campground. Sites 1309-1311 and 1326-1328 are walk-to, tent-only sites requiring a short hike from parking areas. As a designated quiet zone with minimal facilities and no electricity, Starrett Lake Campground appeals to campers seeking a more traditional, low-key camping experience. The campground operates seasonally and requires advance reservations through the Wisconsin State Park System. Firewood is available for purchase on-site.

Directions

From the intersection of Highways 51 and 47 in Woodruff, travel Highway 51 north 6.2 miles to Highway M. Turn right on Highway M. Continue 3.7 miles to North Muskellunge Road. Turn right on North Muskellunge Road and go 4 miles; the campground will be on the left.
