About

Nebish Lake Campground provides a secluded wilderness camping experience in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. The campground consists of two primitive boat-in campsites that can only be reached by paddling or boating across Nebish Lake. There is no other development on the lake except for the boat landing, ensuring a truly remote and quiet experience. Each campsite is equipped with basic amenities including a picnic table, fire ring, and an open-air toilet located nearby. The sites can accommodate up to six people and are large enough for two small tents. The primitive nature of these sites means campers must be self-sufficient and prepared for wilderness camping conditions. Nebish Lake is designated as an experimental research lake managed by the Wisconsin DNR, which requires all visitors to register at the fish checking station located at the Escanaba Lake boat landing before and after each fishing day. Special fishing regulations apply. The campground operates seasonally and reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance through the Wisconsin State Parks reservation system, with a maximum stay of 14 nights per visit.

Directions

Located in Vilas County, approximately three miles east of Highway M. The boat landing entrance is on Nebish Lake Road, directly across from the Trout Lake Forestry Headquarters on Highway M. Sites are accessible only by water from the boat landing.
