About
East Star Lake Campground (sites 1601-1630) is a rustic 30-site campground located in the central portion of the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest on the southeast corner of Star Lake. This traditional rustic-style campground features wider spacing between sites compared to modern campgrounds, providing a quieter, more natural camping experience. The 1,206-acre Star Lake is well known for excellent fishing and swimming opportunities. The campground is equipped with two vault toilet buildings (both ADA-accessible), two hand pumps for drinking water, and separate trash and recycling dumpsters near the entrance. A large area provides water access within the campground, while an adjacent boat launch offers convenient lake access with a parking area, vault toilet building, and hand pump for water. Sites 1614-1615 and 1619-1620 are double campsites that can accommodate up to 12 people and two-wheeled camping units. Sites 1627-1630 are walk-to, tent-only sites requiring a short hike from parking areas. All campsites require advance reservations and can be booked for same-day arrival or up to 11 months in advance. The campground is open from the Thursday before Memorial Day through Columbus Day.
