Plum Lake Campground
Open for the 2026 camping season. The campground operates from the Thursday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. All sites require reservations, which can be made same-day or up to 11 months in advance.
About
Plum Lake Campground sits on the southwest shore of Plum Lake, a 1,108-acre lake in the central portion of Wisconsin's Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. This rustic campground offers 18 sites numbered 1201-1218, providing a quieter, more traditional camping experience with wider site spacing than modern campgrounds. The lake offers excellent opportunities for boating, swimming, and fishing, with a fishing pier adjacent to the campground and direct water access. The campground provides minimal but essential amenities typical of rustic state forest camping: one vault toilet building, one hand pump for potable water, and separate trash and recycling dumpsters. Sites 1215-1217 are double campsites that can accommodate up to 12 people and two wheeled camping units, making them ideal for larger groups or families camping together. Sites 1208-1209 are walk-to, tent-only sites requiring a short hike from parking, offering more seclusion for backpackers and tent campers seeking a quieter experience. The Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest encompasses over 236,000 acres with more than 900 lakes, providing extensive opportunities for paddling, fishing, hiking, and wildlife observation throughout the region.
