About
Crystal Lake Campground is the most popular camping destination in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest, located in the heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods. The campground features 101 reservable sites (numbered 401-501) that surround most of Crystal Lake, a pristine no-motor lake with the entire shoreline designated as beach area. Sites include both standard campsites and walk-to tent-only options, with double sites available that accommodate up to 12 people and two wheeled camping units. The campground provides modern amenities including one flush toilet building with showers, five vault toilet buildings, three hand pumps for drinking water, and a sanitary dump station. Trash and recycling facilities are provided throughout. Two sites (463 and 438) are designated ADA-accessible with electricity. A large marked swimming beach, picnic area, and reservable enclosed shelter are located near the campground, along with a small craft boat landing. The facility also features a nature center with educational exhibits and programs open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, plus a hard-surfaced accessible nature trail. Crystal Lake Campground connects to an extensive paved bike trail system that extends to Firefly Lake Campground, Boulder Junction, St. Germain, and beyond. The campground operates year-round but winter access is walk-in only as roads, driveways, and campsites are not plowed. Winter campers may park near the shower building and walk to their sites. A Wisconsin State Parks and Forest Admission Sticker is required. Maximum stay is 14 nights per visit, and reservations are required before setting up at any site.
