About
Crystal Lake Campground is the most popular facility in the 232,000-acre Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest, located in Vilas County near Woodruff. The campground offers 101 wooded sites numbered 401-501, including walk-to tent-only sites (415-418, 421-423) and double campsites (439-440, 484-485, 497-498, 499-500) that accommodate up to 12 people. Facilities include five vault toilet buildings, one flush toilet building with showers, three hand pumps for drinking water, a sanitary dump station, and trash/recycling dumpsters. A small craft boat landing provides lake access, and a large marked swimming beach with picnic area is nearby. The campground connects to paved bike trails and a nature center with hard-surfaced nature trail. Crystal Lake's entire shoreline is designated as a beach, so pets are not allowed anywhere along the water. Motorized boats are prohibited on the lake, making it ideal for paddling and swimming. Sites 463 and 438 are ADA-accessible. Firewood is available for purchase at the campground.
