About
Morgan-Case Homestead is a historic log cabin rental located at 4,700 feet elevation in the rugged Sapphire Mountains along Rock Creek. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this single-story cabin was an active homestead and ranch from 1890 to 1951 and has been carefully preserved to maintain its historic character while offering modern electric amenities. The wheelchair-accessible cabin accommodates up to five guests with two bedrooms, a living room, dining room, and fully equipped kitchen featuring an electric range, oven, and refrigerator. Period furniture and a wood stove for supplemental heat add to the authentic atmosphere. An accessible vault toilet is located outdoors. The cabin remains locked year-round, with renters receiving combination codes via email upon reservation. The homestead offers exceptional recreational opportunities in all seasons. Rock Creek is renowned for its blue-ribbon trout fishing, while the nearby Sandstone/Wyman trailhead provides access to an extensive network of trails for hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The surrounding Douglas fir and lodgepole pine forests are home to diverse wildlife including bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, moose, deer, and black bears, making it an ideal base for big game hunters and wildlife enthusiasts. Winter access is plowed within two miles of the cabin, though guests may need to ski or snowshoe the final stretch depending on conditions.
