About
Morgan-Case Homestead is a historic log cabin situated on approximately 320 acres along Rock Creek in the Sapphire Mountains at 4,700 feet elevation. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the cabin represents early homesteading and ranching history in Granite County from 1890 to 1951. The Missoula Ranger District began preservation work in 2001, restoring its historic charm while adding modern electric amenities. The single-story cabin accommodates up to five guests with two bedrooms, a living room, dining room, and kitchen. It is furnished in early 1900s style and equipped with an electric range, oven, refrigerator, and lights. Winter heating comes from electric baseboard heaters maintaining 50°F plus a wood stove for supplemental warmth. An accessible outdoor vault toilet is provided. Guests must bring their own drinking water, bedding, linens, towels, toilet paper, and cooking utensils. Pets are not permitted. The area offers year-round recreation including Rock Creek's renowned trout fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and winter activities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Sandstone/Wyman trailhead is within a mile of the property.
