About
Walnut Point State Park encompasses 671 acres of woods, water, and wildlife in east-central Illinois, approximately 20 miles northeast of Charleston. The park centers on a 59-acre lake offering fishing for bass, bluegill, and catfish from nine accessible piers, plus a boat ramp for electric motors only. Hiking trails wind through mixed hardwood forest, including the 5/8-mile Woodpecker Trail, a paved wheelchair-accessible loop. The campground provides 61 sites divided among Class A electric hookup sites in Fox Squirrel and Grey Squirrel areas (both with reservable ADA-accessible campsites), Class C walk-in tent sites, and group camping for youth and adult organizations. Each site includes a picnic table and ground stove, with water hydrants and vault toilets throughout. The modern shower building with flush toilets operates seasonally from approximately May 1 through November 1. A sanitary dump station serves RV campers. Reservations are made through the ExploreMoreIL system. Fox Tent, Gray Tent, and Group Camp areas are designated alcohol-free. The park also offers two reservable picnic shelters, geocaching opportunities, and hunting in designated areas during season.
