About

Forrest W. Bo Wood Recreation Area is a large, established campground operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the northern shore of Lake Shelbyville in central Illinois. The facility features over 140 campsites, all with electric hookups, plus several dedicated tent-only sites. The campground sits on a steep shoreline location with oak and hickory forests providing ample shade. The facility offers comprehensive amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities, a playground, dog park, fish cleaning station, dump station, and both standard and high-water boat ramps. Lake Shelbyville is renowned for its fishing opportunities, including catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass, and bluegill. For those without boats, farmed fish ponds are available nearby. The surrounding area also offers excellent hunting opportunities within a short drive. The campground features five loops with sites accommodating both RVs and tents. Sites can hold one RV and three tents, or four tents. The steep banks may make water access challenging from some sites. Nearby attractions include Wolf Creek State Park and several wildlife refuges popular for birding and wildlife viewing. Fall foliage displays and spring wildflowers add seasonal beauty to the landscape.

Directions

From Sullivan, Illinois, take State Route 32 south for two miles to the Forrest W. Bo Wood sign, then turn right and drive a half-mile to the campground.
