About

Kickapoo State Recreation Area encompasses 2,842 acres near Danville in east-central Illinois, featuring 22 deep-water ponds totaling 221 acres of fishable water. The campground offers 184 sites spread across two major camping areas, with electrical hookups available on sites 1-101 featuring both 30 and 50 amp service on select sites. Centralized water spigots are located throughout, and two shower buildings with flush toilets serve campers. A sanitary dump station is available for RV use. The park supports a wide range of activities including boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, SCUBA diving, mountain biking, and equestrian trails. Kickapoo Adventures operates the on-site concession providing canoe and kayak rentals, paddleboards, mountain bike rentals, firewood sales, and a restaurant. The Middle Fork of the Vermilion River runs through the park, offering tubing and paddling opportunities. Five ADA-accessible campsites (40, 43, 44, 72, and 73) are available, along with accessible flush toilets in the shower house, three accessible fishing piers, and a 3/8-mile wheelchair-accessible trail. Pets are allowed throughout the campground when leashed.

Directions

From I-74, take Exit 206 and head north on Kickapoo Park Road. The park entrance is approximately 1 mile north of the interstate.
