Sullivan Beach Picnic Shelter is located on the northeast shore of Lake Shelbyville in central Illinois. This popular day-use recreation area features the only reservable beach picnic shelter on the lake, making it ideal for family gatherings and group events. The shelter includes 6 picnic tables, a group grill, water hydrant, overhead lights, and 8 electrical outlets. The recreation area offers a large public swimming beach with a designated swimming area, flush restrooms with showers, and a playground adjacent to the shelter. Shaded picnic areas provide relief from the summer sun. The day-use area overlooks the north end of Lake Shelbyville, where visitors can observe diverse wildlife including songbirds, shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors, white-tail deer, and various small mammals. A large parking lot serves the facility, with a $5 vehicle parking fee at the public beach (not included in shelter reservation). Nearby attractions include Wood's Lake for fishing just south of the area, and the Forrest W. Bo Wood campground located a couple miles north. The town of Sullivan is 5 miles north and offers dining options. The shelter operates from 8 a.m. until sunset daily and is available first-come, first-served when not reserved. Adult chaperones are required for youths under 18 years of age.

Directions

From Sullivan, Illinois, go five miles south on State Route 32 to Sullivan Beach Recreation Area. Turn right after crossing the bridge into Sullivan Beach Recreation Area.
