Sullivan Beach Picnic Shelter is a day-use recreation area located on the northeast shore of Lake Shelbyville in Moultrie County, Illinois. This popular facility features the only reservable beach picnic shelter on the lake, equipped with 6 picnic tables, a group grill, water hydrant, 8 electrical outlets, and overhead lighting for extended gatherings.
The shelter is adjacent to a public swimming beach with a designated swimming area, a playground, and a large parking lot. Flush restrooms with showers are located down the sidewalk from the shelter. The area is available first-come, first-served when not reserved.
This is exclusively a day-use facility with no overnight camping. Shelter hours are 8 a.m. until sunset daily. Vehicle parking costs $5.00. Adult chaperones are required for youths under 18 years of age. The surrounding area hosts diverse wildlife including songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, white-tailed deer, and small mammals. For overnight camping, the Forrest W. Bo Wood campground is located a couple miles north.
Directions
From Sullivan, Illinois, go five miles south on State Route 32 to Sullivan Beach Recreation Area. Turn right after crossing the bridge into Sullivan Beach Recreation Area.
