Forrest W. Bo Wood Picnic Shelter is a reservable group facility within the larger Bo Wood Recreation Area on the northern shore of Lake Shelbyville in central Illinois. The shelter accommodates groups with 6 picnic tables, 1 group grill, overhead lighting, and 2 electrical outlets. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., the shelter is available first-come, first-served when not reserved.
The facility is located near a unique dog park featuring two enclosed areas with agility training equipment including hurdles, tunnels, and ramps. Flush restrooms are available nearby. A small parking lot serves the shelter with additional parking down the road.
The recreation area sits on Lake Shelbyville's shoreline surrounded by oak and hickory forests. The 11,100-acre lake offers fishing for catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass, and bluegill, with a boat ramp providing water access. The forested setting attracts diverse wildlife including songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, white-tailed deer, and various small mammals. The town of Sullivan is 3 miles north.
Directions
From Sullivan, Illinois, go three miles south on State Route 32 to Forrest W. Bo Wood Recreation Area. Turn right into the recreation area and follow the road past the campground to the turnaround to reach the day-use picnic shelter.
