About

Vee Lake Trailhead/Campground sits at the southern terminus of the Fremont National Recreation Trail #160 in the North Warner Mountains. This small, primitive campground offers just two sites in a setting that transitions from mixed conifer forest to high desert, with views overlooking Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge. The surrounding forest features ponderosa pine, fir, and aspen stands. The campground serves primarily as a trailhead for the 18-mile southern segment of the Fremont NRT, which runs north to Mill Trailhead. The trail is open to hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Vee Lake itself is a small but scenic destination, stocked with rainbow trout and home to resident ospreys that fish throughout the ice-free months. A boat launch accommodates electric motorboats and canoes. Amenities are minimal: one vault toilet maintained during the open season, no potable water, and no fees. Campers should come fully self-sufficient with water and supplies. The remote location requires travel on forest roads about 1 hour 15 minutes northeast of Lakeview, Oregon.
