People can take the following precautions to protect their health: - Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. - Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. - People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. - Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems. - Avoid using wood-burning stoves and other sources of indoor smoke if possible. About

Moss Meadows Horse Camp is a rustic, no-fee horse camp situated in a remote area of the Fremont-Winema National Forest, approximately 40 minutes south of Paisley, Oregon. At an elevation near 6,250 feet, the camp provides scenic views of Steens Mountain and Mount Shasta from this high desert landscape. The facility includes four primitive campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire grate, along with four corrals and one hitching post to accommodate equestrian visitors. This horse camp functions primarily as a stopover point rather than a destination for trail riding, as there are no short trail ride options directly from the camp. Riders can access the Fremont National Recreation Trail by traveling about 20 miles north to Currier Springs. Another option is to ride approximately five miles west along the road to the Chewaucan River, though permission is required as the route crosses private land; contact information is posted on-site or available from the Paisley Ranger District. Visitors must be self-sufficient at this remote location. No drinking water is available on-site, so campers need to pack adequate water for themselves and their horses. The camp has one vault toilet. The light usage level and primitive nature of this horse camp appeal to those seeking a quiet, backcountry experience in Oregon's high desert.

Directions

From Paisley, take Oregon Highway 31 south for approximately six miles, then turn right onto County Highway 2-10A (Clover Flat Road). From County Highway 2-10A, turn right onto Forest Service Road 3510. Moss Meadows Horse Camp will be located on the left side of FS Road 3510.
