About

Van Buren State Park encompasses 400 acres along Lake Michigan's picturesque shoreline, boasting towering dunes, a pristine sandy beach, and lush woodland trails. The park's modern campground features 220 sites divided into five loops, with generous site sizes offering both shaded and sunny options. Two modern restroom and shower buildings serve the campground, and a walking path provides easy access to the day-use area and beach. The day-use area includes a buoyed swim area, picnic facilities with tables and grills, a picnic shelter, modern restrooms, and playgrounds. The park offers access to the Van Buren Trail State Park via a 2.5-mile paved spur trail, connecting to 12 miles of additional trails south to Hartford and 33.5 miles of the Kal-Haven Trail. A designated pet-friendly beach area is located south of the main swim area. The park is situated just minutes from the charming beach town of South Haven, which features unique eateries, wineries, boutiques, and attractions including the Michigan Maritime Museum. Seasonal naturalists offer nature-based programming during summer and fall months.
