Grand Haven State Park Campground occupies a prime 48-acre location along a half-mile of Lake Michigan shoreline at the mouth of the Grand River in Grand Haven. Unlike typical state park campgrounds, this modern facility features 174 paved sites positioned close to the beach, creating an urban beach camping experience unique within Michigan's state park system. The campground provides electrical hookups with some 50-amp service available, modern toilet and shower buildings, a sanitation station with two lanes, and a playground. Sites are closer together than traditional campgrounds, reflecting the beach park setting. The adjacent designated swim area features an accessible walkway to the water's edge, and beach wheelchairs and a track chair are available to borrow from the campground office at no cost. The location offers exceptional access to Grand Haven's attractions. The famous Grand Haven pier with two lighthouses sits at the park's northern boundary, while the Grand River boardwalk provides excellent fishing opportunities. Downtown Grand Haven is within easy walking distance. The beach house includes modern restrooms, and picnic areas with tables and charcoal grills are available first-come, first-served. Reservations are made through the Michigan DNR reservation system.
