About

Upper Gresham Lake Campground (sites 1501-1525) is a traditional rustic campground located in the central portion of the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest on the northeast corner of Upper Gresham Lake. This 25-site campground embodies the quiet, spacious character that the NHAL state forest is known for, with wider spacing between sites than modern campgrounds and minimal facilities. The lake is particularly known for quality fishing and boating opportunities, though swimming access is available within the campground. Anglers can take advantage of the ADA-accessible fishing pier located adjacent to the boat launch area. The campground includes one ADA-accessible vault toilet building, two hand pumps for drinking water, and separate trash and recycling dumpsters. The boat launch area has its own parking and hand pump for water access. Site 1508-1509 is a double campsite that can accommodate up to 12 people and two wheeled camping units. Sites 1519-1521 are walk-to tent-only sites where campers must hike a short distance from their vehicles. The North Creek Road segment of the Heart of Vilas Bicycle Path passes the campground entrance with smooth paved riding to Boulder Junction 6 miles away. All campsites require advance reservations through the Wisconsin state park system, which can be made up to 11 months in advance.
